STEM Workshop: How to Make a Mini Makerspace for Kids Literature- Authors,
Science,
Visual Arts- Crafts
You don't have to be an engineer to bring hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs to your library, school, or at home. Kathy Ceceri, author of the middle-grade activity book "Robotics: Discover the Science and Education of the Future" will talk about low tech/no tech ways to help kids start designing, building, and inventing! Based on her years of teaching STEM concepts using everyday crafts, Kathy will suggest materials and tools to have on hand for different ages, abilities, and budgets, as well as where to find simple project ideas and resources for further exploration. An award-winning author and illustrator who has presented fun hands-on programs at schools, museums, and libraries around the Northeast, Kathy's favorite projects include the Motorized ArtBot, Solar Wobblebot, Gravity-Powered Robot Walker, Working Waterwheel, and Polarized Light Painting. Kathy has spoken at World Maker Faire New York in 2012 and 2013, and helped organize the Emma Willard Mini Maker Faire in October 2013. She is proud to serve on the board of the Tech Valley Center of Gravity in Troy, one of the fastest-growing makerspaces in the country.
