From Siberia, Russia, Crystal Trio performs on crystal glass. These professional musicians ‐ Igor Sklyarov, Vladimir Popras and Vladimir Perminov ‐ play special instruments made from glass: Glass Harp, Verrophone and Glass Pan-flute Bass. The current repertoire includes variations of popular classical melodies of Mozart, Boccherini, Glinka,and Vivaldi, in addition to original pieces written specifically for a crystal glass. The mysterious, gentlemurmurs of crystal glass allow the listener to understand known melodies in a new fashion; it opens secret,unexpected sides of classical musical pieces.

Perfect for agricultural fairs and the like. Songs and tunes from 18th and 19th century America, when 'the farmer was the man who feeds us all.' Yankee Notions is Jim Douglas and Tim Van Egmond. Both are accomplished singers, storytellers, and musicians (guitar, hammered dulcimer, English concertina, pennywhistle, Appalachian dulcimer). Performing for close to 25 years, Yankee Notions has been featured in hundreds of community concerts and festivals, schools, libraries senior centers, and heritage museums including Old Sturbridge Village (MA), Historic Deerfield (MA), Mystic Seaport (CT), and Old Bethpage Village Restoration (NY). Introduction to the history of the Native American tradition of flute playing, basic elements of construction of the flute (Plains flute and Woodland flutes), the evolution of design of the instrument and the playing purposes. This is a hands-on class and plastic flutes may be available for those who do not own a flute at advance request of at least several weeks. A display of over thirty flutes representing several custom flute builders and a mini-concert of tunes may be included as a pre-workshop incentive for learning. Each session includes instruction on breath control, fingering technique, and playing scales familiar to the Native American style, building melodies using improvisation and learning how to read NAF tablature.

'15 Miles on the Erie Canal' is a colorful and very participatory historic musical storytelling event for the whole family. Enjoy this lively collage of Tall Tales, Costumes, Music and Sing-along Songs as the artists share an unforgettable story of New York’s famous waterway. Presented in 19th century 'folk opera' performance style, it sparkles with canal-era music from cultures along the canal, performed on a rare collection of historic instruments including hammer dulcimer, banjo, fiddle, hurdy gurdy, early squeezeboxes, canal horn, and more. Our story unfolds as Captain Simon Slick and Irish cook Sallie Waters meet up with Sal, a truly amazing mule who makes quite a splash (and also happens to be guest from the audience!). Together they set off on a rollicking journey down The Grand E-ri-e Canal, 8th Wonder of the World! Great characters, great stories, and an unforgettable historic enrichment experience for Summer Reading Programs! NOTE: For a gala event, our “15 Miles” performance may be expanded with your choice of NYS Canal Cultural Heritage workshop activities: expanded singing roles for a children’s/family chorus; lively canal-era children's dances; and even student-written Tall Tale vignettes for the Grand Finale. Reinforce your child's experiences with water activities this summer with "Songs of the Sea". Little ones will participate in music and movement activities as they listen and sing along to songs about the beach, the water, and the creatures who dwell therein. Parents and children will "Row, row, row" their boats together, learn finger plays and some simple sign language while enriching their own song repertoire for the summer. All music is performed live by Miss Dara, with help from the children.
