“CHILDREN SING AND CELEBRATE AROUND THE WORLD!” ($450.00 per program) For Children and their Caregivers, Ages 0 - 100! Children will learn about the great variety of ways that people sing and celebrate around the world in this 45 minute to one hour long interactive program. Participants will sing folk songs from America around the world and play djembes, shakeres, balaphon, and other percussion instruments from America, Africa, China, Latin America, and Native America. They will explore the these five elements of music rhythm,tempo, timbre, dynamics and melody as they sing and make music from all corners of the Earth. Children will also enjoy the musical instrument meet and greet after the program where they can spend time strumming and banging and really getting to know more about the instruments from Ms. Ellison’s personal collection.

As the people of the World come into ever closer and closer relationship, it is most important that Americans have full sympathy with, and understanding for all Nations. One of the most important ways of understanding any Nation is to know its folklore. For in its folklore, every people have embodied much of their culture and wisdom... Program include hands-on workshop, slide shows, folk art display with audience participation. Day of the Dead mask and puppets(Mexico)- Eye of God (Mexico)- Carnival masks (Latin America and the Caribbean)- Spirit masks (Africa)- Kites (India)- Shadow puppets (Indonesia)- Paper lanterns (China)- Accordion Books (Japan)are some of the hands-on art projects participants can create while learning about these incredible traditions!

Histo-Drama-My Spirit Sings draws from a series of'Women Who Could've Sung the Blues but Didn't.' I portray in costume, Harriet Tubman-Prose and songs on the Underground Rail Road and Codes of the Quilt, Sojourner Truth-From Slavery to Rebirth and Freedom, Emmett Till's Mother-A mother's Cry for Justice, Margru-Child of the Amistad (she tells of her fight for survival), Bessie Coleman-Aviatrix pioneer (juvenile-theatre and reading for grade1-4), Zora Neale Hurston-Readings-Their Eyes Were Watching God as well as her folk tale collection, Callie House-Ex. Slave Reparations and Poetry readings by Maya Angelou, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Gwendolyn Brooks, Langston Hughes, Philiss Wheatly, Sonia Sanchez and others.

Hamilton, who as an immigrant became the first Secretary of the Treasury and founded the U.S. financial system died at the hands of Vice President Aaron Burr upon the dueling grounds in Weehawken, NJ. This program features the Hamilton mix-tape performance at the White House, an introduction to the characters of the musical, and music from the Broadway production including Ten Duel Commandments.

Me and my following of hand drum students set the rhythms for everyone to join in and make some dynamic ensemble rhythms from West Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean! A brief history on each rhythm will be given as well as all the drum, shaker and bell parts to be played. Drums and percussion will be available for those who need them. No experience necessary. All ages welcome.

Perfect for A Universe of Stories Summer Reading Program Theme 2019. Dig deep into a cave of the earth--the Sun has been captured by a Fearsome Dragon and hidden away. The HERO of our tale is Bawshou, a young man who courageously rises to the challenge of freeing the Sun. With the help of a golden phoenix, a small parcel of earth, a magic robe, and a heroic dream, Bawshou travels afar to seek out and rescue the Sun, for the good of his people and all the land. Children actively participate as they portray the flowing river, the sounds of the sea, the playing of the gong, the dancing stars, and much much more! The artists evoke a magical atmosphere in this important Chinese tale, employing authentic oriental techniques and traditions including stylized dramatic forms and movement, mythology, exotic costumes, and unusual musical sounds. Chinese folk instruments (erhu, p’i p’a, guzheng harp, sona, Chinese Theatre drum, flutes & whistles, and gong) are featured, combining to make this unforgettable performance piece a joyous celebration of oriental culture. 'Bawshou' was commissioned by the Springfield MA Museum of Fine Arts in 1994. (see accompanying Chinese Dragon Mask Workshop/Parade).

We’ll meet a brave mouse on a quest from the Lakota, a bird who enlightens wise King Solomon, an old Chinese woman whose weaving the fairies spirit away. Monsters and heroes, angels and demons, sages and sillies delight and enliven us. Everyone gets into the act as we sing, move, explore meaning, and make a bit of mischief and magic of our own. Carole Forman has performed story programs around the U.S. and Canada for audiences of all ages. A professional actress, (on Broadway once), she has the ability to engage her audience and get them involved. Wherever Carole tells story she creates community.
