Author Visit: GET STEAM! Literature- Creative Writing,
Media- Photography,
Science
GET STEAM! explores the links between STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) while presenting the process by which I create children's books--including research, photography, and writing. Using images from my books, BUG SHOTS, MOSQUITO BITE, and SNEEZE!, I introduce students to hidden worlds magnified and photographed by an electron microscope. In depth observation of a variety of specimens is accomplished with a 5X jeweler's loupe provided to each workshop participant. Students explore how they can use observation to to inspire their own creative-nonfiction writing.
