Growing Citrus in New England Health & Fitness- Other,
Life Skills- Food,
Nature- Gardening
Houseplants are a fun hobby, but most have no food value. What if you could grow citrus plants like lemons, oranges, and limes right in your living room? Learn how to grow citrus, as well as bananas, pomegranates, olives, coffee, and even vanilla orchids and other spices at home. Learn what plants are hardy in your USDA zone, and whether or not they are self-pollinating or require a second plant. Participants take home an exotic plant of their choice, the last program received Arabica coffee plants. This program pairs well with Bob Flowerdew’s book “No Work Garden.” Please email me with Programs in the subject line with any questions and to be added to my live booking link and visual catalog.

Bioshock! Neuroscience for Everyone Health & Fitness- Other,
Nature- Other,
Science
This course is taught with a lecture and lab component. During lecture, students learn about the organization of the nervous system, synaptic transmission, neurotransmitters, and ionic basis for action potentials. These are basic foundations for the science of neurophysiology, which we will be practicing using hands on methods. The lab component involves recording action potentials in real time from an insect, and analysis of the recording to interpret results. Robotic control of an insect using neural circuits and a cell phone usually interest the most hard core bored students! The goal of the class is to interest students in neural circuits and neuroscience! Please email me with Programs in the subject line with any questions to be added to my live booking link and visual catalog. This program is suitable for the 2019 summer reading program.
$201- $350

Unlock not only vitamins and minerals, but also enhance gut health by incorporating probiotics into your diet! Participants can watch their choice of fermentation project at the library and taste the final product when complete. They will learn the skills to make their own at home, and try a variety of Viking foods at the end of the presentation. This program pairs well with “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon Please email me with Programs in the subject line with any questions and to be added to my live booking link and visual catalog.

Homing Pigeons, A History in Wartime and Peace Health & Fitness- Sports,
History,
Nature- Animals
Our pigeon journey started when one crash landed in my front yard as a teen. Soon my father had built a coop, collected a rag tag crew of breeding birds, and began training drives in preparation for racing. The sport lives on today and has a rich history in both war and peace time. This class includes live birds, learning how to read bands, how to train for racing, and how the racing clock works. Please email me with Programs in the subject line with any questions and to be added to my live booking link and visual catalog. Suitable for 2019 summer reading programs.

Horses 101 Health & Fitness- Sports,
Life Skills- Other,
Nature- Animals
Welcome to the world of horses! Children and adults alike are fascinated by these majestic creatures, and the experiences with them can be magical! Spending time around horses and ponies has been proven in many studies to be therapeutic on many levels both physically and emotionally. The bond can be quite powerful and healing, but where to start? It is important to know the nature of a horse, how to properly handle them on the ground as well as while riding. Proper care and feeding, tack fitting, and maintenance will be discussed as well. This is all taught out of the American Association for Horsemanship Safety manual by Jan Dawson. Katie, our real life miniature horse will be available to be pet, groomed, and for demonstration of safety techniques. Please email me with Programs in the subject line with any questions to be added to my live booking link. This program is suitable for the 2019 summer reading program.
$101- $200
Microbiology Health & Fitness- Other,
Life Skills- Food,
Science
This class has a lecture and a lab component. We are surrounded by, infiltrated, and even share our genes with microbes. Are they friend, or foe? Are you on a quest to annihilate your best allies? Patrons will be introduced to the world of beneficial microbes and how they protect us and promote our health. Patrons will learn about different classes of microbes, their morphology, and learn how to culture petri-film, and test pH of various experimental mediums. Would compliment nicely with a reading of Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions, or Rodney Deitert's The Human Super-Organism. Please email me with Programs in the subject line with any questions to be added to my live booking link and visual catalog. Suitable for 2019 summer reading programs.
