Discover the treasure of music with a musical scavenger hunt. Listen for names of animals, places, and more in these fun and interactive songs, and color a treasure map filled with pictures of these clues. This program has been specially designed for the 2006 Summer Reading Program. The program can be adapted for older or younger children and will include a song written for this year’s theme.

Come join us as we explore New York musically with such songs as Erie Canal, Barges, Sidewalks of New York and many more. We will visit the Iroquois Nation, the Big Apple, the Hudson River, the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains and more. This program can be adapted for all ages, can be interactive for the very young and can include a songwriting workshop for teens.

Traditional American Folk songs and tunes tracing sections of American history with the use of a U.S. map. We will show the Old Chisolm Trail (The Lonesome Cowboy) and Oregon Trail (Sweet Betsy From Pike), the path of the Underground Railroad (Follow the Drinking Gourd), the Erie Canal and others. There will be opportunites for singing along and creative movement. Instruments will include fiddle, mandolin, guitar, vocals and traditional American instruments mountain dulcimer, limberjack, and banjo. We will also explain the importance of folk music throughout history.
