Our pigeon journey started when one crash landed in my front yard as a teen. Soon my father had built a coop, collected a rag tag crew of breeding birds, and began training drives in preparation for racing. The sport lives on today and has a rich history in both war and peace time. This class includes live birds, learning how to read bands, how to train for racing, and how the racing clock works. Suitable for 2019 summer reading programs.

Enjoy it in any indoors venue or bring it to an outdoor or nighttime setting as a special treat. Wildlife Educators Coalition (WEC) brings a variety of live, exotic animals to your location and demonstrates some of the amazing variety of life found on this planet. We start with a general monologue about diversity and some surprising facts about life forms. We then go to the live animals, beginning with insects to lizards to snakes to tortoises & turtles. In this part, WEC volunteers carry different types of each species around the room so people can get up close and ask questions. Some of the animals can be touched. Volunteers with hand sanitizer follow. From there we go to our higher level animals--a cockatoo and a variety of mammals, culminating with a fun and educational visit from Maggie, our black-handed spider monkey.

Learn about New York State’s official bird, the Eastern Bluebird, from a recognized expert. This highly acclaimed program about nature is educational and enjoyable. Program content and length can be customized for children, adults, or families. The focus is on bluebirds, including the nesting cycle (building nests, egg laying, raising young etc.) and the proper use of bluebird boxes. But, there is more, too. Mr. Rogers opens young and older hearts and minds to bluebirds, other birds, butterflies, wildflowers, and nature appreciation. With visually beautiful photographs, bird sounds, and a sincere, enthusiastic presentation style, this PowerPoint program has been presented throughout NY State. The children's program is especially interactive and engaging, with children being encouraged to share their nature experiences.

The Around the World with Dan the Snakeman program includes reptiles, amphibian, and invertebrates from six continents. The program consists of interesting facts about the animals and the continent they come from. Audiences have a chance to "feel the experience" by up close interactions with the animals. A few of the animals that audiences will encounter will be large snakes, alligators, large tortoises, lizards, giant frogs and tarantulas to name a few.

After 20 years of programs, here are the 10 most fun, participatory (even a bit athletic!) kids' songs Tom’s been able to find - all in one program! In keeping with the “Libraries Rock!” theme, he includes lots of encouragement of the kids’ lifelong participation in music, reading, and library usage. He performed 52 programs during the Summer Reading season of 2017, accompanying himself on guitar, banjo, and a drum machine to keep things nice and upbeat. He’s added beautiful slides and cool facts about area animals (visuals… like a real rock show!). Tom can usually be booked for $275 with no mileage fee ($250 each for within 125 miles or for 3 or more booked together) - please see below.
