History, Multicultural- Other, Nature- Other |
The Bushmen of the Kalahari are one of the earth’s last hunter/gatherer cultures. Come hear about their unique way of life including their ancient survival methods. Experience what it’s like to stalk game with a bow across the Kalahari sands or how to make fire with a hand drill or make beads out of ostrich egg shells. Botswana resident, author, conservationist, and eco-tourism guide, Peter Durkin tells of his experiences of living and working with San Bushmen including Xanate, a 70 year old G/wi Bushman and his family clan.
The presentation is appropriate for all ages and will be accompanied by a PowerPoint slide show and interesting artifacts from Botswana.

Nature- Animals, Nature- Environment, Science |
Botswana, Africa is one of the last remaining truly wild places on earth. Former Botswana resident, author, conservationist, and safari guide, Peter Durkin shares insights into the country, its flora and fauna, and the conservation efforts to preserve it. The presentation is based on first-hand experiences gained from running a non-profit game reserve and consulting with local community trusts on natural resource management and eco-tourism. It provides unique insights and details on the National Parks and other wild areas, the many species both great and small found there, and several conservation efforts.
