Mrs. Feeney conducts hands-on workshops for grades 3 and up where the students will study one of the most creative parts of a picturebook, the “Initial Cap”. This element of design and illustration is based on the first capital letter of the story which is enhanced in some way. The Initial Cap is one of Mrs. Feeney’s favorite parts of illustrating a book and it is also something that she really enjoys teaching students how to create themselves for their own writings.

Miguel Cossio was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, to a family of folk artist and performers from whom he learned the many crafts, rituals and traditions of his community and region, especially those associated with Celebrations. Now living in New York, Miguel has taught arts-in-education programs in schools and many other venues. He is currently on the teaching roster of Arts Westchester- www.artswestchester.org and Center for Arts Education- www.caenyc.org in NYC. Miguel offers interactive cultural programs that bring to life the magic of the traditional folk arts from Mexico and Latin America. Programs include hands-on workshops, slide shows, folk art displays with audience participation and Spanish conversation. Masks for Carnival - Papel Picado for 5 de Mayo - Dancing skeleton stick puppets for Day of the Dead - Pinatas for the New Year are some of the hands-on art projects participants can create while learning about these incredible traditions! In Beyond Portraiture, ArtScapades presents three Hudson River School artists, Thomas Cole, Frederic Edwin Church, and Albert Bierstadt and two Still Life artists, William Michael Harnett and James Peale. In Artists Abroad, ArtScapades focuses on the works of Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, and James McNeill Whistler. Choose from a variety of projects for this hands-on workshop, including Light-Up Paper Art and a paper geodesic dome big enough to crawl in, as well as traditional papermaking. Kathy is an expert on low-tech/no-tech ways to teach kids about electronics, robotics, and engineering. Her award-winning titles include 'Making Simple Robots' from Maker Media and 'Robotics: Discover the Science and Technology of the Future' and 'Video Games: Design and Code Your Own Adventure' from Nomad Press.

A Syracuse University graduate and former teacher, Ron has more than 16 years of experience performing at schools, libraries, companies and festivals throughout New York. He also has appeared on television’s Pappyland and Saturday Showboat. This program provides patrons with a working knowledge of sheep breeds and their various uses around the world, and wool and spindle to bring home to keep on spinning! This program is suitable for 2019 summer reading.

Learn how to create beautiful jewelry from the wings of a butterfly! Delicate work involves cutting a small piece of wing, mounting it in a sterling silver plating, and covering it with waterproof apoxy. Necklaces, Rings, Bracelets, Charms, Earrings, Bookmarks, Table Weights. Pieces must dry overnight, and may be taken home by the participants or kept at the library for a 24 hour period. We will also discuss what types of butterflies we are using as well as their life-cycle. This program is suitable for the 2019 Summer reading program.
