Tilstra, Timothy Devil Stick workshop Performing Arts- Juggling,
Performing Arts- Other
It is an odd name, yes... but it's a type of juggling. A brief description: The manipulation of the devil stick (also devil-sticks, devilsticks, flower sticks, gravity sticks, or juggling sticks) is a form of gyroscopic juggling or equilibristics, consisting of manipulating one stick ("baton") between one or two other sticks held one in each hand. The baton is lifted, struck, or stroked by the two control sticks ('handsticks' or 'sidesticks'), stabilising the baton through gyroscopic motion. Fun for all ages!

Edgecomb, Diane Join In! History,
Multicultural- Other,
Performing Arts- Storytelling
Join In and travel around the world with these captivating multi-cultural legends. Each tale offers a participatory look at our common love of story. Celebrate engaging narratives, animal characters, songs in different languages and home-spun wisdom as one of New England’s favorite storytellers takes us from the heart of the Amazon rainforest to the villages of Africa on the wings of story, rhythm and song. “My family was at your amazing performance of “Join In” yesterday. It’s amazing how you bring together many aspects of art and present them for kids so they use their imagination to “see” all the characters you’re talking, dancing and singing about. Personally, I was very happy with your folktales about the rainforests. I’m from Brazil where we have a rich heritage from Africa and we live in the US where my son was born. We loved to hear “O Pião entrou na roda, ó pião! Roda pião, bambeia pião!”. I used to sing this song myself when I was kid. It was delightful. :~)” ~Marcia, Linden School, Malden, MA

M, Ongisa The Gigi Gumspoon Ubuntu Show! Music,
Performing Arts- Puppetry,
Performing Arts- Storytelling
Gigi Gumspoon is a performance artist for young children. Her songs are catchy, upbeat, and progressive enough to appeal to grownups! Gigi promotes the African philosophy of “Ubuntu”, a sense of community and humanity. Her songs focus on social/emotional skills, such as sharing, listening to elders, and coping with disappointment. But she also sings about the alphabet, colors, and eating healthy foods. In her shows, Gigi fosters a love of literacy with the help of her puppet Dionte, Baba Anansi the spider, and her grumpy friend, King Meanie. She reads didactic tales from the magic griot book, and encourages the audience to have more “Ubuntu.” Fans of Gigi Gumspoon, called “Gumbabies”, will learn to not only love themselves, but each other. Once they hear and see The Gigi Gumspoon Show, kids of all ages are sure to become Gumbabies, too
