In this beginner class, you'll learn how to fold your own classic Origami box, then transform it! Using water-based, faux painting,surface design techniques and a bit of bedazzling, you will create a unique gilded, textured box with a special tied closure and embellishing. Styling can be elegant, natural or funky! Examples and images of special boxes will inspire.

Sondra and John Bromka use their beguiling antique instrument collection to bring a lively taste of New York State's cultural character along our famous water way during the 1800s. This is a up-close, interactive concert that includes aires, dance tunes, and singalongs from a variety of immigrant traditions, accompanied by Irish harp, bagpipes, pennywhistle, French hurdy gurdy, German hackbrett (hammered dulcimer), African-American banjo, and English squeezeboxes... our music offers the special flavor of each culture's unique contributions.

Through his beautiful photographs, Photographer-Anthropologist Barry Kass will take the audience on a journey to northern Italy, including Milan, the Lake District, old Medieval towns such as Vicenza, Verona and Padua, Venice, Florence and the wonderful Tuscan countryside. This region of northern Italy is renowned for its scenic beauty and unforgettable art, architecture, and history. A highpoint of the talk will be a visit to Bolzano in the incredible Dolomite Alps, where the famous discovery of Otzi, the frozen iceman of the Alps, can be seen in the city museum.

The Nego Gato Afro-Brazilian Music and Dance Ensemble bring to their audiences the rich African influenced rhythms and dances of Salvador, Bahia, Brazi--areas known for customs deeply rooted in the traditions and spirituality of ancestral Africa. The ensemble was formed by the Artistic Director, Jose Sena, known professionally as Nego Gato, to share his experience of growing up on the streets of Salvador immersed in the magical sounds of street music, Carnaval and Candomble ceremonies. We present Living History and are accompanied by live percussion.

Are there actually wind instruments that you don't blow into? Can a harp ever play itself? What happens when you touch it? Children will be invited to try the harp and find out for themselves! Bells & Motley have discovered that young children (as well as adults) are enthralled by the unusual sounds and stories behind their unique collection of historic instruments, including rommelpot, hurdy gurdy, early bagpipes, harp, hand-made fiddles, and tromba marina. Audiences are especially excited to hear that the Bromkas, in addition to being musicians, historians, and veteran storytellers, are also expert instrument builders.
