Hopkins, Allen Songs of the Civil War History,

Music of the Civil War era, from both North and South, performed in costume and on period instruments (guitar, banjo, concertina etc.). Historical background is given for each song. Selections include partisan rallying calls, songs of nostalgia, soldiers' parodies, and songs of triumph and defeat. Examples: The Bonnie Blue Flag, Tenting Tonight, Just Before the Battle Mother, The Faded Coat of Blue, Marching Through Georgia, We Are Coming From the Cotton Fields, etc. This program has been performed at museums, libraries, folk festivals, and historical societies for the past decade. Includes audience participation (chorus singing). Performed at libraries in Fairport, Watkins Glen, Odessa, Albion, Lockport, Penfield, as well as various regional festivals and Civil War re-enactments.

Creative yoga classes for children, broken up in age groups of 2-5 years, 6-9, 10-13, and 14-18. Class includes breathing, meditation, mindfulness, yoga moves and stories (where age appropriate), relaxation and brain games! This wonderful yoga helps children and teens with focus, anxiety, stress and depression. 2-5 year olds will have a shorter class. Canal songs, performed in 19th-century costume and using period instruments (guitar, banjo, concertina, etc.). Songs about the construction of the canal (1816-1826), about canallers' lives and work, and about the folklore of the canal. Examples: The Meeting of the Waters of Hudson and Erie, Oh That Low Bridge, Paddy On the Canal, Buffalo to Troy, Ee-ri-ee Was Risin', Trip On the Erie, Low Bridge, etc. Also includes information regarding canal and Western New York history. May include Mark Twain poem The Aged Pilot Man. Performed frequently in the Rochester area, and at folk festivals in New York & New England. Performed at libraries in Lockport, Lyons, Albion, Big Springs Museum (Caledonia), historical societies in Greece, West Sparta, etc. Also NY State Button Society convention (Owego), April 2011.

I use interactive songs -- original and traditional -- as well as musical/theatrical improvisation to really make this an interactive, fun and energetic experience! No one will be sitting just watching -- there will be moving, dancing, singing, spontaneous fun. You will need to rest after my show! I love to empower children to use their imagination and be part of the show.

Collins, Dawn Native American Style Flute Playing and Mini-Concert History,

Introduction to the history of the Native American tradition of flute playing, basic elements of construction of the flute (Plains flute and Woodland flutes), the evolution of design of the instrument and the playing purposes. This is a hands-on class and plastic flutes may be available for those who do not own a flute at advance request of at least several weeks. A display of over thirty flutes representing several custom flute builders and a mini-concert of tunes may be included as a pre-workshop incentive for learning. Each session includes instruction on breath control, fingering technique, and playing scales familiar to the Native American style, building melodies using improvisation and learning how to read NAF tablature.

NEWS The Creative Strings Workshop Developed by Gwen Laster, this workshop method brings together traditionally trained string players in nurturing Composition and Improvisation skills. Jazz and Global music repertoire are also used to emphasize individuality of sound, music theory and ear training. All students record their own CDs of the music they've composed, arranged and/or studied as an end session activity. The workshop concludes with a live performance of individual and ensemble music composed and rehearsed during workshop

Talking Drums is a musical performance designed to involve and enhance participants’ knowledge and appreciation of African/African Diaspora music through its instruments and songs. Structured for early childhood audiences, Talking Drums utilizes lecture-demonstration and performance techniques with lavish appropriations of enthusiasm. In this program, participants are taught how various traditional African instruments are made and played. The results are totally tantalizing in that students learned to count, spell, and jump all to the beat of the African drum! Join Kobla Dente as he leads audiences on a journey of musical exploration

Corn-Tastic - We learn about the many uses of Corn in today’s world. We learn the science and benefits, to the world, Corn brings and how we can all be the future, through education, of discovery. Farmer Tom Walsh, during his program, will distribute agriculture and farm related STICKERS to the fair goers. BEE ON THE FARM: Farmer Tom Walsh’s program has an agricultural theme that begins with a fun and educational story and then song on the life of bees. During the show everyone will gain an appreciation for the importance of bees in agriculture production. Bee My Friend: Everyone will gain an appreciation for the importance of bees in agriculture production. Cooperation with and respect for others (Dignity for All Students Act) is available for Elementary grade levels with his original story, The wooly bully bee, is a story of a bee that is misunderstood and everyone helps to tell the tale! Performance Preparation: Activities can include curriculum requirement, cooperation with others, farming, vegetables, recycling, nutrition, safety, history and music.
