| Program description: | Families are invited to participate in community dancing from around the world with an emphasis on American dances that originated in Europe and Africa. This includes singing games, folk, square and contra dancing. Homespun Community Dancing with Peter (Davis), Paul (Rosenberg) & George (Wilson) teaches the origins, sounds and uses of traditional folk instruments, including fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, clarinet, pennywhistle, and recorder. This program helps children to develop an awareness of what life was like before electricity, especially during the 18th and 19th centuries, when families and communities made their own entertainment with homemade music and dance. |
