Performers and Programs

Program Information

Program name: Writing and Illustrating Children's Books
Program category: Literature- Creative Writing
Performing Arts- Literary Artists
Program length: 50 minutes - flexible
Audience level: All ages
Audience size: flexible
Program description: Creating a children's picture book from the beginning idea to final bound book. Support materials demonstrate the stages: sewing a 32-page book dummy, making original art, galleys, press sheets, manuscripts with editorial comments to show the re-writing process. I also do writing workshops on middle-grade novels besides doing art and writing at the elementary grade level. I have had over 50 books published for different age groups.
Space/special requirements: Classroom, auditorium, or library setting, depending on the need of the organization/school - We discuss whether it is an assembly or a workshop.
Travel restrictions: none
Program fee: $351- $500
Is this fee negotiable? Yes
Mileage included? Yes
Notes about the fee: I charge 500 per session/speech. Most schools want three speeches for 1500 (or 4 for 1800 reduced fee), but often a library wants one talk or two, unless they are bringing in a school with various grade levels.
Other notes: Four Seasons (Knopf/Random House) latest novel. Jacket blurb quote by Judy Blume. Mousterpiece (Roaring Brook/ Macmillan picture book) I wrote and illustrated. Recent article in Children & Libraries ALSC journal and KidsLit TV on my career.
